Why Did My Contactless Transaction Not Work?

Find out why your contactless transaction did not work

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If you're facing issues with your contactless payments, here's a quick guide to help you resolve them.

First Transaction Requires PIN Entry

In order to activate the contactless feature on your card, your first transaction must be completed using a PIN. This process ensures that the card is securely activated.

  • Where to Find Your PIN

    • Open the Spendesk app.

    • Navigate to My card and select View PIN.

    • Here, you'll find your PIN securely displayed.

Settings Set by Admin

Sometimes, your contactless payments might be restricted due to settings configured by your company's admin. This could be part of your organisation's spending policies or due to specific security protocols.

  • Where to check if you can do contactless payments

    • Log in to your Spendesk account.

    • Go to your Cards tab

    • Look into the Authorizations section

Contactless limit reached

You may have exceeded your contactless limit. This can either be:

  • The amount of 1 transaction is too high for contactless: 50EUR. This limit is also enforced in the UK and equals 42GBP.

  • The number of consecutive contactless transactions: after 5 contactless transactions, you will need to enter your pin.

Make sure to complete a payment using the PIN to reset contactless functionality as a first troubleshooting step.
