Spendesk

After completing the connection flow in Spendesk and downloading the installer package, you need to install the Chift Local Agent on the server where DATEV Rechnungswesen is running. The local agent acts as a secure bridge between DATEV and Spendesk.

Estimated installation time: approximately 5 minutes.

⚠️ Before you start: Make sure you have downloaded the <code>Setup.zip</code> installer from the Spendesk connection flow (Step 6 of <a href="https://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/14635059-connect-spendesk-to-datev-rechnungswesen" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Connect Spendesk to DATEV Rechnungswesen</a>). If you sent it by email, ensure the recipient has the file ready on the DATEV server before proceeding.

Locate the downloaded <code>Setup.zip</code> file on the DATEV server and extract it to a folder named <code>Setup</code> (right-click → Extract All).

Step 2 — Locate the installation files

Open the extracted <code>Setup</code> folder. It should contain two files:

<code>settings.json</code> — contains the credentials needed to connect to DATEV. Do not edit this file.

<code>SetupLocalAPIService.exe</code> — the installer executable.

Double-click <code>SetupLocalAPIService.exe</code> to start the installation, then follow each step:

Select the language for the installation screen.

Select the installation type — "Standard installation" is recommended.

Confirm the path to the <code>settings.json</code> file — by default it should already be selected from the extracted folder.

Continue through the remaining steps until you see a confirmation that the installation was successful.

🎉 Your connection to DATEV Rechnungswesen is now active.

To confirm the local agent is running correctly on the DATEV server:

Open the Windows Start menu and search for Services.

In the list of services, locate LocalAPIService. Its status should be Running.

If <code>LocalAPIService</code> is running, the installation is complete and the connection between Spendesk and DATEV Rechnungswesen is live.

Return to Spendesk. Your chart of accounts, tax codes, cost dimensions (KOST1/KOST2), suppliers and employees will be pulled from DATEV Rechnungswesen in the background. You can now start the <a href="https://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/14664857-configure-spendesk-to-use-datev-rechnungswesen-accounting-setup" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">configuration of Spendesk to use DATEV Rechnungswesen accounting setup</a>.
