Spendesk asks for your date and place of birth to verify your identity before you can use payment services. This is a legal requirement to fight money laundering and fraud.
For: Requesters using physical or virtual cards, and Account Owners or Controllers who process wire transfers.
Why does Spendesk need this personal data?
As a payment services provider, Spendesk must identify the people using its payment services. This obligation comes from articles L561-5, R561-5, and R561-5-4 of the French Monetary and Financial Code. Spendesk uses this information to fight money laundering and fraud.
Who does this apply to?
User type | Action that triggers the requirement |
Requesters | Ordering or using a physical or virtual card (single-use or recurring) |
Account Owners and Controllers | Performing a wire transfer to reimburse an expense claim (expense report) or pay a supplier invoice |
Before you start
You need an active Spendesk account.
You don't need any specific role or plan — this requirement applies to any user performing the actions listed above.

Troubleshooting
Symptom: You can't find your place of birth when searching in the field.
Cause: The search matches how the location is recorded in the database, which may include the surrounding administrative region.
Resolution:
Try adding the department, region, or state name after the city (for example, "Saint-Lô Manche" instead of "Saint-Lô").
If your place of birth still doesn't appear, contact Spendesk support for assistance.
Symptom: You're blocked from ordering a card or sending a wire transfer.
Cause: Your date of birth or place of birth is missing from your profile.
Resolution:
Go to My Profile and complete both fields.
Click Save.
Retry the card order or wire transfer.
💡 Tip: If your saved date of birth displays one day earlier than expected, this is usually a browser time zone display issue. The date stored in Spendesk's system is correct.
