Setup your two-step authentication (Authenticator app, SMS or Spendesk mobile app)

How to setup your two-step authentication.

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Spendesk supports these methods of two-step authentication:

  • Spendesk mobile app

  • Authenticator apps

  • Text messaging (SMS)

How to setup your two-step authentication?

Step 1 - Edit your profile information

To edit your profile information you will need to go to your profile:

  • Click on your avatar in the bottom left hand corner of Spendesk;

  • Then select My Profile.

Step 2 - Add your authentication method

  • From your profile page, click on the Security tab;

  • On the Authentication methods, click on Add an authentication method.

Step 3 - Choose your authentication method

Two methods are available to you: Authenticator app or Spendesk mobile app.

Note: You can also choose the SMS method by adding your phone number in the Phone number section of your account.

Authenticator app

  • Select Authenticator app

  • Download an authenticator app on your mobile device or computer:

  • Click on Show the QR code;

  • Scan the QR code with you authenticator app the click on Continue;

  • Entry the 6-digit provided by your authenticator app.

At your next sensitive action (i.e. login, reveal PIN, Wire Transfer confirmation, …) you can use your authenticator app for two-step authentication by selecting Use an alternate authentication method.

Spendesk mobile app

  • Select Spendesk mobile app;

  • Download Spendesk mobile app on your mobile phone;

  • Then follow the steps in the app to set up your mobile phone as a trusted authentication method.

Text message (SMS) method

  • Add your mobile phone number in My Profile;

  • Choose this method.

Guidelines to strengthen the security of your account

  • Configure multiple authentication factors to maintain access if one becomes unavailable;

  • Avoid text messaging (SMS) as it is less secure than other authentication methods. Text messaging are vulnerable to several types of attacks (SIM swap, SS7 attacks). Your account’s security is defined by its weakest protection.

How to troubleshoot issues?

I set up my authenticator but have since changed my mobile device. Will it still work?

Most authenticator apps are linked to your account, so you can simply install the app on your new mobile device and sign in to restore your verification codes.

I’ve lost access to my authenticator and can’t sign in to Spendesk or complete a sensitive action. What should I do?
